Hispanic-owned businesses are significant drivers of economic growth in New Jersey. According to a report by the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative (SLEI), Hispanic entrepreneurs in the state contribute an estimated $14.4 billion to the economy annually. This contribution includes revenue generated by Hispanic-owned businesses as well as indirect economic impacts.
Purchasing Power:
Hispanic consumers in New Jersey yield significant purchasing power, contributing to the state's retail and consumer goods sectors. According to data from Nielsen, Hispanic households in New Jersey spent an estimated $36 billion on consumer packaged goods in 2020. This purchasing power extends across various industries, driving demand and supporting local businesses.
Job Creation:
Hispanic businesses in New Jersey play a vital role in job creation. The same SLEI report estimates that Hispanic-owned businesses in the state support over 100,000 jobs. This includes both direct employment within Hispanic-owned firms and indirect employment generated through supply chains and consumer spending.
Number of Hispanic Businesses: As of the latest available data from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), there were approximately 122,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in New Jersey. This number represents a significant portion of the state's overall business landscape and reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of the Hispanic community.
